COVID-19 Resources Post-Pandemic
The COVID-19 Public Health Emergency officially ended May 11, 2023. Below are changes to available COVID health-related services including important changes to New York State health insurance. Also, some facts still remain important post-pandemic, such as the safety of the COVID vaccine and the vulnerability of certain populations to COVID.
WHAT’S NEW?
Vaccine Availability
As long as the federal government’s supply of vaccines last, COVID-19 vaccines and boosters will remain free, even after the public health emergency ends. Once the federal supply is depleted, vaccines will remain available and free to most people with private and public insurance. If you are unsure where to access a vaccine or your coverage, contact your insurance company (the number can be found on your insurance card) or our Community Health Advocate Program at (518) 462-7040.
Testing and Treatment
Coverage for COVID-19 testing and treatment will vary by insurance type.
- For people with Medicaid coverage, COVID-19 testing, and treatment will remain covered at no cost through September 2024.
- For those without insurance, COVID-19 testing and treatment will no longer be covered, and the cost will be determined by individual providers. However, free tests and treatment may be available at local free clinics or community health centers.
- The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention offers a No-Cost COVID-19 Testing locator. Find for a location convenient for you, then visit the provider’s website to make an appointment.
If you are unsure how to access testing or treatment, contact your insurance company (the number can be found on your insurance card) or our Community Health Advocate Program at (518) 462-7040.
